[ARCHIVED] Youth Tennis - Registration Open

Tennis Lessons 2021

Spring Session Junior Tennis Lessons Registration is now open!

Spring Tennis Lessons will run from the Week of April 5 through the Week of May 22.

Follow this link to register: Catalog - Owatonna Parks and Recreation (rec1.com)  If you have not already done so, you will need to create an account in our CivicRec Recreation Management software to register.

Shooting Stars (Red Ball)

This course is designed for beginning tennis players from ages 5-8. In this course, the focus will be on learning how to track and make contact with the tennis ball. Players will also learn how to properly hold the tennis racquet. We will also begin to develop groundstrokes through various drills and games!  Red tennis balls are 75% slower than a normal yellow tennis ball 

Dates: Monday and/or Thursday

Time: 5:00pm - 5:30pm 

Session Fees:

  • 1 Day per week = $64
  • 2 Days per week = $105 (multiple day discount will be automatically applied during checkout when classes are registered at the same time) 

Young Stars (Orange Ball)

This course is designed for players ages 7-10 who have completed the Red Ball class or has at least 1-2 years of playing experience. In this course, the focus will be on developing groundstrokes, learning how to hit with topsin and the serve and serve return are introduced. Players at this stage will use the shortened court with a regular tennis net. 

Orange tennis balls are 50% slower than a normal yellow tennis ball. 

Dates: Monday and/or Wednesday

Time: 5:40pm - 6:40pm

Session Fees:

  • 1 Day per week = $80
  • 2 Days per week = $144 (multiple day discount will be automatically applied during checkout when classes are registered at the same time)

Stars (Green Dot) 

This course is designed for players aged 10-12 who have completed Red and Orange ball training and have mastered the basic strokes in tennis. In the course, players will further develop these strokes and begin to play against one another. Players use the entire court at this stage. 

Green Dot Tennis balls are 25% slower than a normal yellow tennis ball 

Dates: Sunday and/or Wednesday

Time: 4:30pm - 5:30pm

Session Fees:

  • 1 Day per week = $90
  • 2 Days per week = $155 (multiple day discount will be automatically applied during checkout when classes are registered at the same time)

Star Academy Middle School & Intermediate

This course is designed for players aged 11-18, who have mastered the basic strokes of tennis and are in-between starting middle school tennis all the way through high school JV. In this course, players will develop their strokes and learn more about tennis strategy through drilling, playing games and competition between one another. 

A regular yellow tennis ball will be used on a full tennis court

Dates: Sunday and/or Tuesday

Time: Sunday = 1:00pm - 2:30pm; Tuesday = 6:15pm - 7:45pm

Session Fees:

  • 1 Day per week = $150
  • 2 Days per week = $265 (multiple day discount will be automatically applied during checkout when classes are registered at the same time)

Star Academy Advanced Girls

This course is designed for players who have Varsity experience. This is intended for players who have been playing at a competitive level through high school tennis or USTA tournament competition beyond 12U. In this course, players will be developing more advanced strokes, learning advanced strategies, and preparing for competitions and college tennis preparation. 

A regular yellow Tennis ball will be used on a full tennis court

Dates: Sunday and/or Thursday

Time: 6:15pm - 7:45pm

  • 1 Day per week = $150
