Lake Kohlmier Temporarily Closed
OWATONNA, July 25, 2024 - Lake Kohlmier will be closed until further notice due to high bacteria levels from test results received on July 25, 2024.
Bacteria levels in a lake fluctuate based on various factors such as heavy rain or wind, time of day, amount of people visiting the beach, beach wildlife, and physical characteristics of the beach. At this time there has been no specific cause for the spike in bacteria identified.
Lake Kohlmier will remain closed until the bacteria levels return to the recommended range according to the Minnesota Department of Health. The safety of the community is the top priority. City staff will conduct frequent testing to ensure the lake area is reopened as soon as possible. Some structured programming scheduled at Lake Kohlmier has been cancelled or reformatted.
