Trail Rules
Owatonna’s multi-use trail system is designed to provide a variety of recreational opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy. Please follow rules and share the trail.
- Stay as near to the right side of the trail as you can
- Move over for those who are faster
- Travel in a consistent and predictable manner
- Pass on the left only after looking ahead and back
- Announce yourself by giving a signal to let others know you are passing
- Yield when entering or crossing trails or roadways
- When traveling with others, only use half the trail
- No racing or using excessive speed
- Do not approach dogs, or approach others with your dog
- Pets must be on a leash
- Clean up after your pets
- Leave no trace and throw your trash

Description: The 18th Street Trail begins in Kaplan's Woods off of Mosher Avenue and travels parallel to the road to Cedar Avenue, then proceeds on the north side of 18th Street to Austin Road.
Future: Construction in 2026 will extend the trail east to Bixby Road.
Location: Along 26th St NE from North Straight River Parkway/Cashman Park to Kenyon Road

Description: The 26th Street Trail creates an east-west connection between the North Straight River Parkway Trail and the string of parks that line the Buxton Trail corridor. It is currently planned as the northern portion of the City's loop trail.

Description: The Buxton Trail begins at North Street and travels through Dartt's Park, Brooktree Golf Course and Mineral Springs Park, then terminates near the eastern edge of the City. For the most part, the trail follows Maple Creek.

Description: Cashman Crossing connects Kaplan's Woods Parkway Trail on the east side of the Straight River to Walter H. Gainey Park and Lemond Road on the west side.
All Cross Country Ski Trails are packed and groomed as weather permits.

Kaplan's Woods Parkway: 8+ miles through Morehouse Park, Kaplan's Woods and Owatonna Country Club

Description: The North Straight River Parkway is a combination of the Lange Woods Trail and the Ihlenfeld/Wildung Trail. It continues the Muckle Trail corridor north along the Straight River, connecting to the 26th Street Trail near Cashman Park.
