Forever Chemicals/PFAS

PFAS are a group of chemicals that do not break down in the environment. They are used in many everyday products and are known to be health hazards to humans. Wastewater treatment plants receive PFAS from dischargers to the system. There is no economical way to remove PFAS from wastewater. Reducing the use of PFAS at their sources is key to reducing PFAS in the environment.

The City of Owatonna has been awarded a grant from the State of Minnesota to increase public awareness of PFAS and investigate sources of PFAS within its municipal sewer system.
