BATTLE OF THE BADGES

On November 26, 2025 the Owatonna Police Department will be facing off with the Owatonna Fire Department in our annual bell ringing fundraiser for the Salvation Army.   We will be at Hy Vee from 4-6PM.   Please come down and say hello to our staff and donate if you wish.  This friendly fundraising competition has been going on for several years and the OPD was the winner of the 2024 bell ringing fundraiser.  We will have a squad car on display and McGruff might even make an appearance.  This is always a fun competition, raising money for a great cause.

Captain Sorensen Graduates from Southern Police Institute

Owatonna Police Chief Jeff Mundale is proud to announce the graduation and return of Captain Joshua Sorensen, who has successfully completed the 12-week Administrative Officer Course at the Southern Police Institute, located on the campus of the University of Louisville, Kentucky.

Chief Mundale expressed great pride in Captain Sorensen’s dedication, commitment, and academic achievement, and extended appreciation to Captain Sorensen’s family and the members of the Owatonna Police Department for their support during his absence.

The Southern Police Institute is recognized nationally for its academic excellence and for providing one of the most rigorous and comprehensive executive-level training programs available to senior law enforcement officers. The curriculum emphasizes leadership development, self-reflection, strategic management, and contemporary practices in public safety administration.

Chief Mundale stated, “Captain Sorensen’s successful completion of this demanding program reflects his commitment to an on-going regiment of learning and excellence. His achievement strengthens our department’s leadership capacity and enhances our continued efforts to provide the highest quality of service to the citizens of Owatonna.”

The Owatonna Police Department remains dedicated to the ongoing professional development of its personnel and to fostering strong leadership that advances the department’s mission and promotes the safety and well-being of our community.
