Watch for upcoming openings to serve 

The City of Owatonna encourages community members to attend public meetings and serve on any of its 12 boards and commissions. An Application Form will be posted on the City’s website in March for board and commission openings that begin May 1.

Fire Department Hosting National Fire Academy Training Course

Members of the Owatonna Fire Department and other fire departments around Minnesota will attend a National Fire Academy (NFA) course Leadership in Supervision: Creating Environments for Professional Growth at the Owatonna Fire Station. This two-day course is designed to provide supervisors with basic leadership skills and tools needed to perform effectively in the fire and EMS environment. The course includes concepts related to a successful transition to supervisory and leadership roles such as adaptive leadership, change management, active followership and effective communication.

The NFA, as a part of the US Fire Administration, provides free, specialized training courses and advanced management programs for fire officers, instructors and technical professionals. Fire departments across the nation are encouraged to apply to host a course taught by an NFA-qualified instructor.

Upcoming Parks & Recreation Programs

Registration for most spring and summer programs, classes and camps began February 4. Additional details for all programs and facilities can be found online at owatonna.gov or on the Parks & Recreation online registration page at owatonnat.gov/prcatalog.  Register online at www.owatonna.gov, call 507.444.4321 or stop by the Parks & Recreation Office at 500 Dunnell Drive.

City Meetings This Week

February 18 City Council tour of the Wastewater Treatment Plant at 5 p.m. Study Session to follow in the Chambers at the Charles S. Crandall Center at City Hall, 540 West Hills Circle, for updates on various boards and commissions as time allows. City Council meeting at 7 p.m. including a public hearing for consideration of the Preliminary Assessments of the 2025 Street & Utility Project.

February 19: Economic Development Authority meeting at 4 p.m. in the Chambers at the Charles S. Crandall Center at City Hall, 540 West Hills Circle.
