Engineering Updates 11/5/2021

Construction has begun and various projects can be seen around The City of Owatonna. Please slow down and use caution when approaching a construction zone.
 
 We thank you for your patience as these projects are completed. 

City offices will be closed Thursday November 11th in observation of Veteran's Day. Staff will return on Friday November 12th.

2021 Truman Avenue: 

This week:                                                                                                                                 November 5, 2021 

Northland Grading & Excavating completed the remaining underground work on the project, between Havana Rd. & Murray St., on Wednesday of this week. All Water Main & Services, Storm Sewer, and Sanitary Main & Services are now completed on the project.  On Thursday Northland completed the rest of the 6” Perf. Pipe Drain on the project, in the same block section between Havana Rd. & Murray St.  

Northland’s grading crew was also on-site this week working on the remaining Sub-Cut, Subgrade Prep., and Subbase Grading between Havana Rd. & Murray St.   The grading crew started the week finishing up the Sub-Cut & Subgrade Prep. at the intersection of Havana Rd. & Truman Ave.  On Tuesday of this week, they completed the Subbase Grading at this intersection and then reopened the intersection to traffic at the end of the day.  For the remainder of the week, the grading crew worked on finishing up the rest of the subbase grading on the project between Havana Rd. & Murray St.  They also worked on excavation and subgrade prep for the sidewalk, and began finish grading the subbase for the roadway section between University St. & Murray St.   

Legends Concrete was also on-site this week.  Legends paved curb & gutter on Friday of last week (10-29-21) up to Murray St.  They began the week working on They poured the remaining sections of curb & gutter at catch basins and curb returns and then switched over to pouring driveways and some sidewalk.

Next week: 

Havana Rd. & Truman Ave. intersection:

Northland completed all the underground and grading work at this intersection and reopened the intersection to traffic on Tuesday (11-02-21) of this week.   Northland plans to have Crane Creek Asphalt on-site to pave the remaining asphalt base course for Truman Ave. towards the end of next week. The intersection of Havana Rd. & Truman Ave. will be temporarily closed to traffic for a couple of hours while the asphalt base course is being paved at this intersection.  The intersection should be reopened to traffic after the asphalt base course paving is completed before the end of the day.   

Rest of Project:

The plan for next week is to get everything left on the project ready for the asphalt base course to be paved by the end of next week.  

Northland will be continuing work on excavation and subgrade prep. for the sidewalk.  They will also be working on finishing up driveway removals to get them graded and ready for Legends to pour.  

Legends Concrete will be on-site next week and plans to pave the remaining concrete curb & gutter left on the project, between Murray St. & Havana Rd., on Monday or Tuesday of next week.  After all the concrete curb & gutter has been paved/poured, Legends will continue working on pouring driveways & sidewalks on the project.

Scheduled work is weather dependent, and if delayed by weather or other delays will be moved back to the next week. 

Intersections affected: 

The intersection of Havana Rd. & Truman Ave. has been reopened to traffic.   The East, West, and South sides of this intersection are open to traffic to access, but the North side of this intersection is still closed.  This intersection of Havana Rd. & Truman Ave. will be temporarily closed to traffic for a couple of hours while the asphalt base course is being paved at this intersection.  The intersection should be reopened to traffic after the asphalt base course paving is completed before the end of the day.   

All Side-roads along Truman Ave. between Main St. and Havana Rd. are open to drivers and pedestrians.

The Side-roads at Agnes St., Academy St., School St., Phelps St., and University St. are paved with the first lift of the bituminous pavement and are open to drivers and pedestrians.

The Side-roads at Prospect St., South St., McIndoe St., Murray St., and Havana Rd. have temporary rock ramps in place for drivers and pedestrians to get across.  These Side-roads will be temporarily closed to traffic for a couple of hours while the asphalt base course is being paved.  These Side-roads should be reopened to traffic after the asphalt base course paving is completed, before the end of the day.  

The temporary access lane at the cul-de-sac of Academy St. has been removed, but the finish grading and topsoil shaping work still remains to be completed at this location.  

Drivers are encouraged to take alternative routes, if possible, to avoid construction activities on the project.
